i think you've hit upon a mutually satisfactory solution -- the 
only reason i proposed a new list was for archiving and threading
and data mining purposes, but i suppose that since the point of 
the entire excercise is to provide individual users with as broad
a spectrum of options and mechanisms as possible to ensure an 
equal user experience for all, human rationality definitely trumps 
administrivial concerns...

what say the rest of you who are subscribed?  is leif's suggestion
acceptable middle ground for all?  most importantly, what does the 
listmaster think?
